Butler Station 1
The Butler Fire Department is located in western Custer County and operates 7 apparatus out of one station. The department protects a population of 200 and covers an area of 217 sq miles. The department responds to approx. 125 calls a year and currently has 19 volunteers.

Engine 5 is first out for all structure fires and accidents, as it is equipped with a hydraulic set of extrication tools. The department purchased this unit in 2014 from an unknown department.
While badged and sold as an American LaFrance, this truck was manufactured by Southern Coach in Ocala, FL just prior to their acquisition by ALF. This truck even still sports a Southern Coach production number!
Tanker - 2000 Peterbilt/Chief/BFD - 200 Waterous/2500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Tanker 1 is the departments only tanker. The cab and chassis was donated by a local oilfield transport company. The pump area and upfit was completed by Chief Fire & Safety and the department installed the tank in house.

Brush Pumper 1 & 2 were the first twin units built by Alpha One and even the chassis are only one serial number apart! After completion, these trucks toured with Alpha One to promotional events across the country!
Brush Pumper 3 - 2024 Ford F550/2009 Chief/2024 Copeland - 250 Hale/500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Placed in service in July 2025, Brush Pumper 3 is the newest addition and first out brush pumper for the department. The bed was remounted from a previous unit and the upfit was completed by Copeland Welding, formerly known as Selman Welding.
Brush Tanker 4 - 2006 OshKosh HEMTT/2023 BFD - 250 Hale/2500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Brush Tanker 4 is usually second out for reported large fires. Completed in house in 2023, this beast of a truck is equipped with a bumper nozzle, 360 degree ground sweeps, and a cab operated pump system.
Command - 2018 Ram 1500 - Gas/Auto - ex-Butler PD
The departments command truck was originally purchased for the town police officer. After his retirement, the police department was dissolved and the truck was given to the BFD.
