Arapaho Station 1
The Arapaho Fire Department is located in central Custer County and operates 10 apparatus out of one station. The department protects a population of 800 and covers 70 sq miles. The department responds to approx. 125 calls a year and currently has 15 volunteers.
Engine 98 - 1998 International/1972 Boardman, F-1857/1999 Emergency Equipment Services (OKC) - 1000 Waterous/1000 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Engine 98 is second out for all structure fires within city limits.
This truck has quite the history. The pumphouse to this truck was originally on a 1972 Ford/Boardman operated by the Tulsa Fire Department. That truck was later sold to Spavinaw, OK where the AFD purchased the truck and sent it to Emergency Equipment Services in Oklahoma City to be refurbished. EES ended up only keeping the pumphouse and some surrounding accessories and put a new chassis and built a new body around the original pump.
Engine 99 - 1999 Freightliner/Ferrara, H-1402 - 1500 Darley/1000 Tank - Diesel/Auto - ex-Boothsville, WV
Engine 99 is first out for all structure fires at the department. Purchased in 2016, this truck formerly served Boothsville, West Virginia.
Tanker - 2016 Peterbilt/2024 Copeland - 500 ?/3000 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Arapaho Tanker is now the departments only tanker. The cab and chassis, with over 800,000 miles, was purchased used in 2023. Then the department placed the former military tank on the back and had a local company finish the upfit. This unique truck was placed in service in 2024.
T1 - 1985 OshKosh P-19 - 1000 Hale/1000 Tank - Diesel/Auto - ex-?, ?
T1 is last out for most fires and is usually used as brush truck. It was purchased used at a local auction with the lettering still on it and the department decided not to change it. It’s originally assignment is unknown.
Unit 9 - 2017 Ford F550/Cooper Creek - 200 Hale/500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Unit 9 is the first out small brush unit for the department.
Unit 10 - 2009 Ram 5500/Blanchat B-5 Chaparral, Serial #090510 - 200 Rowe/400 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Unit 10 is the second out small brush unit for the department.
Unit 11 - 2009 Freightliner/2023 J&J - 200 Hale/2000 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Unit 11 is first out for most grass fires at the department. Built in 2023, the cab and chassis used to be the tractor for the departments former tractor-trailer tanker.
Unit 12 - 2009 Freightliner/2019 J&J - 200 Hale/1500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Unit 12 is usually second or third out for grass fires depending on the fire size and location. This was the first freightliner built for the department.
Rescue 21 - 2005 Ford F550/Horton - 0/0 - Diesel/Auto - ex-Hydro, OK
Rescue 21 is first out for all accidents and medical calls for the department. Originally serving Hydro, OK, this truck is equipped with both hydraulic and battery powered extrication equipment.
Command 1 - 2011 Chevy Tahoe - Gas/Auto - ex-OHP
Used for both command and transport to classes and training, Command 1 is a former OHP Tahoe.
