The Bessie Fire Department is located in northern Washita County. The department operates 6 apparatus out of one station. Their current station was formerly as grocery and hardware store, with a small addition of 2 more bays and a training room to the right.
Engine 1 - 1992 Pierce Lance, Job #E6808 - 1500 Waterous/1000 Tank - Diesel/Auto - ex-Cheshire, CT
This engine originally served as Engine 4 in Cheshire, Connecticut. Bessie took ownership if this engine in 2020, retiring their 1970s Ford/Boardman that came from Clinton, OK.
Tanker 1 - 1991 Pierce Dash, Job #F2677 - 1250 Waterous/3000 Tank - Diesel/Auto - ex-Bath, OH
This beautiful pumper/tanker originally served in Bath, Ohio. Bessie took ownership of this beast in 2011. It was originally designated as Tanker 337, as that is the number assigned to the BFD. Although the decals are still there, it is now referred to as Tanker 1 or just Tanker.
Brush Pumper 2 - 2006 Ram 2500/BFD - 150 Hale/400 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Brush Pumper 2 originally had a 300 gallon tank, but was recently upgraded with a 400 gallon skid unit from Bullseye Fabrication in Pauls Valley.
Brush Pumper 3 - 1975 GMC 6500/1992 BFD - 150 Hale/1000 Tank - Gas/Manual
One of the last remaining pieces of the original rural fire department, Unit 3 or now Brush Pumper 3 was built all in house by department members. It is also equipped with a dump chute on the rear of the tank as this acted as the departments tanker before the arrival of the '91 Pierce.
