Thomas Station 1
The Thomas Fire Department is located in NW Custer County and operates 11 apparatus out of one station. The department protects a population of 1200 and covers an area of 200 square miles in Custer, Dewey, and Blaine Counties. The department responds to approx. 180 calls a year and currently has 18 volunteers on roster.
Engine 607 - 1997 Pierce Dash, Job #E-3610 - 1250 Waterous/1000 Tank - Diesel/Auto - ex-Catlett, VA
Purchased from Catlett, VA in 2014, Engine 607 is first out for all non-wildland fires for the department and is second out for accidents as it carries a set of hydraulic extrication tools as well as fire equipment.
Engine 649 - 1989 Pierce Lance, Job #E-4798 - 1250 Waterous/750 Tank - Diesel/Auto - ex-Catlett, VA
Donated by Catlett, VA in 2023, Engine 649 is second out for all structure fires and will also respond to in town mutual aid requests.
Once housed under the same roof in Virginia, Catlett decided to reunite them by donating 649 in 2023.
Tanker 647 - 2008 Sterling/Alpha One - 500 Berkeley/4000 Tank - Diesel/Manual
Brush 641 - 2020 Ram 5500/Alpha One - 100 Hale/500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
641 is first out for all grass fires for the department. As you will see, all of the TFD's smaller brush pumpers have compressed breathing air bottles for firefighters to use during heavy smoke conditions.
Brush 644 - 2024 Ram 5500/Selman - 200 Hale/500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
The newest addition to the department, 644 is second out for all grass fires for the department.
Brush 648 - 2018 Ram 5500/Alpha One - 200 Hale/500 Tank - Diesel/Auto
648 was originally meant to be red and about 4 feet shorter. A mix up in the order of a red single cab short-bed was not found until the department went to pick up their new cab and chassis and found this white crew cab-long bed. This truck is third out for grass fires at the department and is the dedicated Custer County Task Force truck for the department.
Brush 650 - 1992 Freightliner/WFD - 200 Hale/1500 Tank - Diesel/Auto - ex-Weatherford, OK
Purchased from nearby Weatherford, 650 replaced an older AM General and is the departments only heavy brush pumper.
Rescue 643 - 2009 Ford F550/Unruh - 200 Hale/300 Tank - Diesel/Auto
Rescue 643 is first out for accidents at the department and is equipped with a set of hydraulic extrication equipment. It also has a pump and tank if needed.
